Overview

The Graduate Student Assistant for Disability Services, a member of the Weingarten Center, supports the mission and staff of Disability Services at Penn. The Graduate Student Assistant monitors departmental email accounts and phone lines, providing general information to students, families, faculty, and the public regarding Disability Services. The position meets with students and other visitors to the center on a walk-in basis, providing general information and making appropriate referrals to staff within the Weingarten Center and to other campus resources. The Graduate Student Assistant assists students who qualify for test accommodations with using the test reservation system. The Graduate Student Assistant also supports the Weingarten Center through public appearances at resource fairs, workshops, and other disability awareness events.

Required Duties

The duties of the Graduate Student Assistant for Disability Services include:

  • Monitor departmental email accounts and phone lines, providing general information about disability services.
  • Greet students and other visitors who walk into the center, providing general information about disability services
  • Make appropriate referrals to Weingarten Center colleagues and services, as well as other campus resources
  • Guide students with disabilities in using the MyWeingartenCenter test reservation portal
  • Represent the Weingarten Center at resource fairs, open houses, workshops, and other events
     

Preferred Qualification and Essential Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Interest in disability inclusion and accessibility in postsecondary education
