Overview

Penn Alumni Relations seeks to engage all members of the Penn community in a mutually beneficial, lifelong connection to each other, their school, and the University, and encourage alumni support and guidance to advance Penn's eminence for future generations. The Graduate Assistant (GA) functions as an integral member of the Penn Alumni team, working primarily with Penn Traditions, a student organization under the Penn Alumni umbrella. The GA serves as the advisor to Penn Traditions Engagement Ambassador committee and co-advisor for the Penn Traditions Chair to the Penn Alumni Board. Penn Alumni is seeking a candidate interested in the fields of student affairs and/or alumni relations, and someone who can quickly adopt the Penn spirit and is exciting to interface with many campus partners, alumni, students, and staff!

Required Duties

  • Advise Penn Traditions Engagement Ambassadors committee; assist students with events (such as Homecoming, student study breaks, and alumni panels), and initiate collaboration with other campus student groups and departments 
  • Co-advise the Penn Traditions Chair to the Penn Alumni Board; plan monthly Penn Traditions General Body Meetings and work with Associate Director on the overall Penn Traditions priorities and vision 
  • Coordinate the design, planning, and implementation of programs and events 
  • Work collaboratively with Alumni Relations colleagues on projects related to the GA’s interests and career goals 
  • Lead the Student and Young Alumni team’s data collection and volunteer tracking efforts to help better inform future programming and ensure completion of overall capital campaign and departmental goals
  • Participate in the design and layout of newsletters and web content; responsible for social media strategy for Penn Traditions   
  • Staff Penn Alumni events (some evenings and weekends), including Homecoming, Volunteer Leadership Retreat, Alumni Weekend, etc.
  • Use Development & Alumni Relations databases to research, identify, and engage potential volunteer leaders 
  • Provide service to alumni, students, volunteers, and fellow staff to ensure successful programming on campus, off campus, and virtually

  • This position is an ideal opportunity for a graduate student interested in the fields of student affairs or alumni relations. The applicant should have an interest in a student facing role as this position serves as the primary advisor to Penn Traditions Campus Community committee.

Preferred Qualification and Essential Skills

  • Strong interest in working with students, alumni, friends of the University, and volunteers 
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written
  • Creativity and willingness to develop and implement ideas for student programming and student engagement
  • Demonstrated experience in student advising, marketing, and/or event planning
  • Ability to work with limited supervision and carry out multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and perform tasks with energy and enthusiasm
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and student and alumni volunteers
