Overview

The Graduate Assistant for the Office of Climate and Community (OCC) will support GSE's mission by coordinating projects, initiatives, and programming that foster inclusion and belonging. This role involves managing program logistics, collecting and analyzing data, synthesizing information, writing reports, and presenting results to various stakeholders. The assistant will collaborate with student organizations to celebrate different identities,  establish communication channels that amplify all voices, assess climate and engagement, develop cultural competence resources, address participation barriers, and facilitate community-building activities. Through these efforts, the Graduate Assistant will contribute to creating a supportive environment where all students, staff, and faculty feel valued, included, and empowered to fully engage with the GSE community.

Required Duties

  • Assist with the development, coordination, and implementation of educational, cultural, and inclusion programs across GSE:
    • Monthly “Here Together” digital newsletter
    • Monthly Community Circle planning
    • Ongoing OCC programming
    • History and Awareness Months Initiatives
  • Assist, attend and participate in trainings, meetings, and committees.
    • Weekly 1:1 Meetings with Assistant Dean for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
    • Monthly Committee on Climate & Community, Office of Student Services meetings (or designee), Staff meetings (or designee), Faculty meetings (or designee), Affinity Group meetings (both student led and school-wide groups)
  • Advise and assist with ongoing climate study assessment initiatives. Participating in qualitative/quantitative assessment initiatives
  • Contributing to research, and compilation of best practices and learning/training needs
  • Assists in outreach to student organizations, academic departments, community organizations, and alumni to continue building metrics, communication collaterals/presence for the office and its programs.
  • Assist with preparing presentations, graphic materials, and reports related to DEI and DEI initiatives and programming.
  • Supports communications and social media operations.
  • Collaborate with UPenn cultural centers, departments/units, and the community to achieve strategic initiatives
  • Maintain confidentiality in incidents and complaints related to diversity and inclusion
  • Other responsibilities may include the planning and execution of special events. Provide administrative support and other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualification and Essential Skills

Preferred Qualifications & Essential Skills:

  • Interest in inclusion and belonging in a higher education setting
  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively with a wide-ranging internal and external client base
  • Ability to analyze data and create reports
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Graphic design experience a plus

Other Notes:

The ideal candidate is someone who is a quick learner, demonstrates initiative, and can manage a variety of tasks in multiple areas with minimal supervision. This person should have an interest in belonging & inclusion knowledge, impact, and outcomes as relates to students, faculty, and staff.
