Overview
Reporting to the Associate Director of Wellbeing Initiatives, the Health Prevention, Education, Promotion Graduate Assistant will develop, implement, and maintain a variety of population-specific, theory- based health promotion and education initiatives, primarily focusing on initiatives within Wellness at Penn’s Substance Use, Prevention, Education, and Recovery (SUPER) Program. The Graduate Assistant will collaborate with key stakeholders across campus to develop opportunities in support of our mission to infuse wellness throughout the Penn experience through inclusive, innovative, and impactful initiatives. This will be accomplished through planning, coordinating, implementing, and assessing students’ physical and emotional health, academic success, and personal growth. Penn’s eight domains of wellness include: Physical, emotional, social, spiritual, intellectual, occupational, environmental, and financial wellness. Required Duties
- Lead and/or support a variety of Substance Use, Prevention, Education, and Recovery (SUPER) initiatives. Projects assigned to this role include:
- Planning and executing regular substance-free events as alternatives to parties and events that include substances (events will primarily take place on nights and weekends).
- Representing the SUPER Program and/or Wellness at Penn at tabling and other outreach events, including providing SUPER-specific education and general information about Wellness at Penn services.
- Supporting harm reduction initiatives during events and dates where there have historically been high levels of substance use and related high-risk behavior.
- Support activities related to health promotion, needs assessment, outreach, prevention and intervention efforts, and educational program development and evaluation.
- Engage and collaborate with student groups, student leaders, and individual students to ensure that Penn continues to provide evidence-based, data-driven, and relevant health programming and information in meaningful ways to its audiences.
- Support other functional areas of Public Health and Wellbeing as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualification and Essential Skills
- Demonstrated ability to work with highly diverse audiences, including students, faculty members, staff, and university administrators, preferably in higher education settings. Exhibit appropriate sensitivity to others, and interface effectively with students.
- Demonstrated strong people skills, organizational skills, and ability to work on a team; a general understanding of higher education policies and practices preferred. Excellent oral and written communications skills required. Experience in data analysis and/or program evaluation preferred.
- Demonstrated experience and/or strong interest in substance use and harm reduction education and/or collegiate recovery is preferred.
